To Be – Past Tense

英語のTo Beの過去形は2つの形があります。 WASとWERE

To Be – Affirmative

Subject To Be Examples
I was I was tired this morning.If I was tired this morning.If I was tired this morning.If I was tired this morning.
You were You were very good.
He was He was the best in his class.
She was 仕事に遅れ気味であった。
It was It was a sunny day.
We were We were at home.
You were 休んでいるところだった. You were on holiday.
They were They were happy with their test results.

To Be – negative Sentences

To Beの否定は動詞（WasまたはWare）の後にnotをつけて作ることができる。

主語 To Be 例
I was not I was not tired this morning.
You were not You were not crazy. You were not crazy. I was not not not tired this morning. I was not tired this morning. I was not tired this morning. You were not crazy.
He was not He was not married.
She was not She was not famous.
It was not It was not hot yesterday.
It is not hot.It was nothing.
We were not We were not invited.
You were not You were not at the party.
They were not They were not friend.
You were not at the party. You were not not at the party. They were not friends. They are not friends. We are not not invited. We be not added.

To Be – 負の短縮形

過去形のTo Be動詞の負の短縮形は、動詞（wasまたはware）とn’t（例：ware not = weren’t）を結合して作ることができます。 主語と動詞の短縮形は作りません（例：I was）。

は有名ではなかった。

I was not tired this morning. OR I wasn’t tired this morning.
You were not crazy. OR You were not crazy.
He was not married. I wasn’t tired this morning.OR you were crazy.You were crazy.I weren’t crazy. OR He wasn’t married.
She was not famous. OR She was not famous.
It was not hot yesterday. He was not married.Or Or OR It wasn’t hot yesterday.
We were not invited. OR We were not invited.
You were not at the party.
We were not inved.Or We were not invited. OR あなたはパーティーにいませんでした。
They were not friends. OR They were not friends.彼らは友人ではありませんでした。

To Be – Questions

ToBeで質問を作るには、主語の前に動詞を置きます。

Affirmative You were ハッピーでしたね。
主語 動詞
質問 あなたは 楽しかったですか。
動詞 主語 肯定 質問
I was late Is I late?
You were sick. Are you sick?
He was surprised. Was he surprised?
She was from Italy. Was she from Italy?
It was a big house. Was it a big house?
We were ready. Were we ready?
You were early. Are you early. Who were you early?
They were busy. Were they busy?

Before the verb can also have a WH- Question word (Why, Who, What, Where etc.>

Were you happy? はい、そうです。

なぜ嬉しかったのですか？

To Be – Short Answers

話し言葉では、通常、質問に対して短い答えを返します。

Was he from Japan? – はい、彼は（日本から）来ました。 最後の(from Japan)は必要ではありません。

Are you sick? Yes, I was. No, I wasn’t.
He was surprising? はい、そうです。 いいえ、そうではありません。
彼女はイタリア出身ですか？ はい、そうです。 いいえ、そうではありません。
それは大きな家でしたか？ はい、そうです。 いいえ、そうではありません。
我々は準備ができていますか？ はい、そうです。 いいえ、違います。
早かったですか？ Yes, we were. No, we were not.
忙しかったですか？ Yes, they were. No, they were not.

** With To Be, 私たちは肯定短答で短縮形を使用しない。
